Out & About in Our District...

Posted by Mikep4321 on May 19 2018 - 3:39pm

It has been quite an interesting number of weeks in our District, Our Council and the National   Council as there changes in the Air with Family Scouting, the "so-called" name change and   other key thoughts.

As we await updated guidance from our Council on plans for Scouting For Food 2018,  A   profound sense of thanks is hereby given to the Order of the Arrow for spreadheading a drive that yielded 127 Pounds of Food which was delivered to Second Harvest on behalf of the District this past week.    Please watch this space for-- further developments over the ensuing weeks.

There are also changes in the air as Family Scouting has now been introduced.     The planning process is continuing--but there is one piece of news that is not changing-- as this advisory from National noted below--Please also don't forget to join the June Roundtable as we will be joined by the Mayor of  Laguna Niguel.

Wishing all a great Memorial Day Week-End as we hereby present this guidance from National:

American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid - Adult and Pediatric - Blended Learning

Posted by jbrooksj on May 14 2018 - 11:09pm

Course is American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/first aid by blended learning.  Pediatric includes child and infant.  ARC certification is valid for 2 years.   An additional session is now being offered for Friday May 18.
For those interested in “blended learning” where one does a portion of the training on-line via the instructions below and then competes physical training on the manikins at my house in San Clemente.      Cost is  $60 by cash or check  payable  to me at physical skills session.  Tell me what skill session you plan to attend.    Three skill session options are provided- you only do ONE of these.  I need a name, unique email and a phone number from each person taking the training for course records.   More skill session options may be provided later if there is a great deal of the interest.

If you start the on-line training portion of blended learning and don’t like it —feel free to stop as you may prefer to do the course 100% in person with us or another trainer.  I don’t have a full day in-person course scheduled right now but they are available from others.  No fee is due until you do the in-person skills session.

Email me at your cert of completing the on-line portion or turn-in a copy to me when you report for the training.

A waiver must be completed - youth or adult as applicable.  A  pdf is attached.

ECR Gateway - A New Custodian Is Needed

Posted by gtaylor on May 13 2018 - 3:23pm

The ECR Gateway has been a part of ECR history for over 20 years.  https://www.ecrbsa.com/node/3781 We are grateful to Brad Lothers for creating it, maintaining it, storing it, and most importantly bringing it to the 3 District events we have each year: Camporee, Camporall, and Day Camp.  The time has come to pass along the stewardship of the gateway.  The top arch breaks down into pieces that are 4 feet long, 3 feet high and 6 inches wide.  The vertical posts also disassemble to 4 6 ft pieces.  Our next district event will be Day Camp.  We are looking for Brad to "hand over" the gateway then.  Please contact Greg Taylor ( gtaylor@cox.net ) if you are interested in maintaining this important part of ECR history.
